Performance "Giunone placata"

On 17 November 2025, almost exactly 300 years after its premiere, the opera Giunone placata will be performed in concert in the Festive Hall of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Under the direction of Magdalena Hasibeder (harpsichord) and Eva Saladin (concertmaster), students from the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna / Institute for Early Music will sing and play. The vocal material was compiled by Alexander Rausch, the editor of this Festa teatrale. We would like to thank the mdw for co-organising the Fux Festival 2025!
P.S.: A second performance will take place on 18 November 2025 at 8 p.m. in Graz at the Mariahilf Church.

Performance Mass K 26

The Mass K 26 (Missa primitiva) can be heard on 15 November 2025 at Heiligenkreuz Abbey, as part of the liturgy at 9:30 a.m. This is likely to be the first modern performance of the work. The mass for soloists, four-part choir, trumpets with timpani, violins and continuo was composed before 1720. It was relatively widespread, including in Dresden, as evidenced by a copy of the score with annotations by Jan Dismas Zelenka, who was known to have been a pupil of Fux in Vienna. The performance material was prepared at the Fux Research Centre of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Under the direction of Johannes Weiss, students from the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts, Institute for Early Music, will perform this mass. We are very grateful for this cooperation with the mdw.

Concert with music for the Imperial banquets

On 2 and 3 December 2024, a Tafelmusik (music for banquets, table music) by Fux (FuxWV III.4.1) will be performed in Graz (Minoritensaal) alongside other works. This "Arie per il servizio di tavola" consists of six programmatic movements and was edited for the first time according to a source in Rostock. The orchestra "Recreation" will perform under the direction of Alfredo Bernardini. The concert will be broadcast on Ö1 on 23 December 2024 at 14:05.

Concert "La Regina Saba"

Our next Fux concert will take place on 30 May 2024 at 7 pm in the Festsaal of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The programme includes the oratorio "La Regina Saba", the first completely preserved dramatic work by J. J. Fux. Composed in 1705, while Leopold I was still alive, it shows the composer from an unusual angle, which contrasts somewhat with his later oratorios. There is much to discover in this modern premiere. Students from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna will perform under the direction of Stefan Gottfried. A second performance took place at the Pfarrkirche Mariahilf in Graz on 2 June 2024.

Liturgy K 47 Ossiach

After its premiere in Klagenfurt (see below), the Mass in C major K 47, newly edited by Ramona Hocker and others, will now also be performed as part of the liturgy on Sunday, 4 June 2023 in the Abbey Church of Ossiach. The choir, orchestra and soloists of the Gustav Mahler Privat Universität will perform under the direction of Thomas Wasserfaller.

Another performance of K 47 as part of a high mass in Klagenfurt Cathedral will take place on Sunday, 6 August 2023.

An interview with Ramona Hocker, which offers additional information about the work, can be found on youtube (Radio Klassik Stephansdom, 31.5.2023).
